Abilene - S/T - Slowdime

Abilene is another new band on the Slowdime roster which features some old faces: Alex Dunham (ex-Hoover, Regulator Watts), Craig Ackerman (ex-Lustre King) and Scott Adamson (ex-Chisel Drill Hammer). Alex Dunham is pulling guitar and vocal duty once again, so, to me, this sounds like the direction Regulator Watts would have gone in had they stayed together. Abilene is much mellower and meandering than Regulator Watts. Longer songs without the screaming vocals, similar to some of the quieter songs that Regulator Watts performed.

Although this is good and a pleasant listen, I enjoyed the screamin' vocals, math rockin', bass-in-your-face quality that R.W. had much more than Abilene. These songs never "kick-in", they just kind of start and then just kind of end and there you go. I guess I like the rock thing better. Oh well, people move on (except me, apparently).
