The Catheters - ST/7" - Kapow Records

Review by: Jennifer Perkins

First things first, I love a band with a good sense of irony, and from the looks of The Catheters 7" they have one. Hard rockin' boy music, the outside packaging in completely black, then the 7" is bubblegum pink marbleized vinyl. Not exactly what I was expecting, but it made me smile and I liked it.

The Catheters remind me of a myriad of bands, although they are well grounded in their own style and sound. They seem to be bringing back to life the music I associate with their hometown of Seattle, not grunge, but early Sub Pop (hey, they just signed with them!). The spirit of The Dwarves living on in younger better looking bodies. I was also reminded of The New Bomb Turks and even Kiss.

Needless to say from all these cop-out comparisons one can draw the conclusion The Catheters rock. Punky and gritty good old-fashioned ear drum bursting music. No weird pedals, synthesizers, or any of that other pansy ass shit. The Catheters bring you the rock a la' drums, bass, vocals and a really loud guitar. Just the way it was meant to be. And if you don't like it, colored 7"s make great Christmas tree ornaments so its a wise investment either way.
