Pat Benatar - Best Shots - Chrysalis

Review by: Jennifer Perkins

Pat Benatar is like a commercialized 80's version of Kathleen Hanna. She is rough and pissed and gonna tell you all about it. She was a riot grrrl when those chicks in Olympia were still shitting in their pampers. Good stuff. Find me a girl today that doesn't get all riled up when she hears "Hit Me with Your Best Shot".

One of the best parts about Pat Benatar, is that she can sing. No, I mean really sing. She trained to be opera singer before she was bitten by the rock-n-roll bug. You can tell on her power ballads like "We Belong" and "Shadows of the Night".

Pat's strong point is when she gets angry and let's it show in her songs. As mentioned early "Hit Me with Your Best Shot" is an anthem of sorts. Another good song with conviction is "Heartbreaker". I wouldn't mess with Pat, she looks mean.

Pat Benatar was also a queen of the video age. Take for example "Love is a Battlefield". Can't you see her starting an upheaval at the local dance hall leading all the hookers outside in a rebellious synchronized dance? Telling their pimps to stick it where the sun don't shine. (Oh for when videos were good and cheesy).

"Invincible" or "The theme from The Legend of Billy Jean" is especially close to my heart. Billy Jean was supposedly from a Texas coastal town called Corpus Christi where my boyfriend is from and I vacationed as a child. He and I have to shout, "Fair is Fair Billy Jean" every time we hear "Invincible".

Pat Benatar's greatest hits is 15 songs of pure cheese enjoyment. Sure some of the tunes are a little silly, but Pat has a voice to be reckoned with. Plus, she can rock - don't forget that.
