Patsy Cline - Patsy Cline Sings Songs of Love - Patsy Cline Sings More Great Songs of Love - Sweet Dreams Soundtrack

Review by: Jennifer Perkins

The first time I was ever exposed to Patsy Cline was by my best friend Erin. Her family had more movies on videotape than anyone I knew, or have known since. One of those gems was a little flick with Jessica Lange and Ed Harris called Sweet Dreams about Ms. Patsy Cline. From that moment on I was fascinated.

Owning Patsy Cline’s greatest hits was inevitable for me, for one I’m from Texas. As children I can remember Erin randomly taking Patsy Cline requests “Walking After Midnight” and “Blue Moon of Kentucky” being her favorites. When I was older and in high school I was on the drill team my freshmen year and had to wear the same outfits Patsy did. Little boots, satin blouses with fringe, and a big cowboy hat. She was my mentor and I always told myself if Patsy could work this look than so could I.

Even a year later when I was kicked off the team for having blue hair and Erin had quit before me, we always thought of Patsy fondly. Between spinning our KMFDM and Ministry records we always managed to squeeze in a little Patsy Cline for good measure. Going from Esch screaming “I Wanna go to Hell” to Patsy crooning “Crazy” was a regular mixed tape for us.

Into college Patsy followed me. There was the time for a semester final in sign language when we had to sign a favorite song and I opted for “Why Can’t He Be You”. I recall when a friend from New York came down to Texas to visit and put “Back in Baby’s Arms” on her answering machine to honor the trip down south.

No home is complete without a Patsy Cline greatest hits record. If there was ever such a thing as a country western torch singer than it is Ms. Patsy Cline. Songs like “She’s Got You”, “Sweet Dreams” and “I Fall to Pieces” are just as classic and moving as anything Dinah Washington or Nina Simone has ever sang. Add in her thick Virginia accent and the funny little country outfits and its even better!
