The S. Process - More Me - Track Star Records
Review by: Jennifer Perkins
More Me starts in with a dissonant beep-beep like an isolated SOS calling out to all that will listen "prick up your ear's, things are about to get started". When the S. Process gets started you had better be ready because this band is loud and aggressive. The S. Process are not afraid to show you and your ears what they are capable of: heavy distortion, interesting sample choices, and heavy bass lines.
The S. Process musically lies somewhere in-between Mocket, Atari Teenage Riot and I am Spoonbender. At the same time they still have a sound entirely their own and actually sound more eschewed than all those comparisons. Their range is all over the place from German digital hardcore at one moment to DC punk the next. Their eclectic stylings is one of the things that makes this band stand out.
More Me has instrumental pieces as well as songs you could sing along to like "The 3 of Us". One moment the samples are so prominent you feel like you might start to dance and the next is so guitar driven you want to thrust your fist in the air in a fit of rage. I really like the addition of a DJ to the mix. Samples of phone conversations, screeching violins, and a bass line so heavy it would fit in at a rave add an interesting touch on "Sleepytime Uno". Transmagetti's Julian Grefe is the man behind the turntables and moog that adds so much to this band. The guitar, bass and drum work on songs like "Playing House with Traci Lords" are nothing to mock either. Vocalist/guitarist Bob Doto and drummer Daneil Mazone are the original members of The S. Process.
More Me is a diverse glimpse into the schizophrenic sounds of The S. Process. They seem at once animated and energetic and at the same time apathetic and their tone indicates that they don't really give a fuck. As far as bands containing moog players and flippant attitudes go The S. Process have written the new rule book, More Me.
