The Sloppy Meateaters - Forbidden Meat - Orange Peal Records
Review by: Jennifer Perkins
Bad name, good music. With a moniker like The Sloppy Meat Eaters the news that the music is pop punk is not going to come as a major shock to anyone, but the fact that it is good and pretty damn original pop punk might raise a few brows.
No really, these guys know more than one power chord I mean it.
For the most part, it is hard for me to tell one pop punk song from the next. They all kind of bleed together to a novice listener like me. If not for the spaces in-between the songs, I am not sure I would ever know something had changed. Something is different with the Sloppy Meateaters. For the first time I was able to differentiate. I am not promising I could tell the Sloppy Meateaters apart from Blink 182 or The Ataris, but as far as each song on Forbidden Meat goes, I can tell.
Like most pop punk bands The Sloppy Meateaters music is energetic and puts ants in your pants. Josh Chambers has the perfect set of pop punk vocal chords and his lyrics manage to find just the right blend of flippant attitude and introspection to make the content interesting.
The Sloppy Meateaters, though only 2 years old have managed to come a long way baby. Terms like dynamic and melodic are not usually mentioned in the same breath as pop punk, but the Sloppy Meateaters are an exception. A good rule of thumb is you don’t get asked to play the Warped tour, have fan sites dedicated to you and get a spot on the Farm Club TV show if you suck.
