The Booty Olympics - Boystyle

Review by: Jennifer Perkins

Remember that cheese ball line Renee Zellweger gives to Tom Cruise at the end of Jerry McGuire: "You Had me With Hello"? Well The Booty Olympics and I are much the same way. All I had to do was see that name and I was intrigued. Then I saw the press release that read "Help us spread the booty" I am obviously easily amused and as you know from the name game section of this site I have thing for a good band name. All this said, good name, a press kit that made me giggle, then top it off with the fact that this is easily the best CD I have heard this year. Brace yourself for me to start gushing.

Three girls with an old school lo-fi fuzzy sound and a great name, what's not to love about The Booty Olympics and their debut CD Boystyle? There are poppy numbers like "Anyone But You" that will make you wanna bounce around the house, there are sing along songs like "Auderey" that are reminiscent of circa 1990's Velocity Girl or Cub, then there are songs with some attitude and a tough low end edge like "The Broozer". Within the 11 songs on this disc there is a little something for everyone.

The chicks in this band are no virgins to the Indie music scene. You might recognize two of the ladies, Mitzi and Palmyra from The Friggs. Their previous endeavors show in these well written pop songs. Boystyle is a record that was obviously not made by a bunch of novices, rather one constructed by talented and experienced musicians. The Booty Olympics show that you don't have to be loud and scream to rock you can actually be mellow and harmonize and every bit as endearing and interesting.

So as the name implies, pop in this record and let The Booty Olympics begin. Boystyle and all its pop goodness will make you go for the gold in the ass shakin' department.
