Desktop Storage, Makeup Container, Flower Pot - you name it! |

Record jackets are things of beauty, small little pieces of art if you will. Sure a lot of times, whats inside sounds like complete ass, but damn is the packaging pretty. Well why leave these little lost treasures all alone at the thrift store. Take them home and make some storage out of the jacket and then a hip chip bowl out of the record!

The original idea for the boxes came from the Fab book Pad, that no home is complete without. Here are the supplies:

1) Rip apart the record jacket, or separate the front from the back. You can cut it apart. Cover the edges of the jacket with your packing tape. This makes them smooth and easy for the lid of your box to slide on and off. 2) On the back of the front side draw four straight lines with your ruler. The lines should be 2 1/2 inches from the edges. These are going to be your fold lines. |

3) Cut four tabs from the corner fold lines. These will make the flaps that fold in and get glued down. 4) Fold over all four lines. The cover should be folding in to look like a box. 5) Start putting glue on the tabs and clothes-pinning them in place. Now wait over night! |

Repeat all 5 steps for the back part of the record jacket, except make the fold lines 2 5/8 inches in. Now what do you do with that scratched up piece of vinyl that is left over? Preheat your oven..... |

Got this idea from the Get Crafty Website! 1) Preheat oven to 225 2) Place your record on top of an oven safe bowl of some kind. Preferably a large one. Place the whole thing on a cookie sheet. 3) Bake for 5 minutes or so. Don't be scared I know this feels really wrong, but I swear you are not going to burn your house down. |

4) Take your record out of the oven and at this point it should be really flaccid. 5) Flip the bowl over and use it as a sort of mold for your record. Tweak the warm vinyl (you should be able to handle it) into any shape you like. If you 'F' it up you can always heat it up and do it again! 6) Should be hard in a matter of a few minutes. |

| Now look at these treasures. I put a plant in my record bowl, after all the drain hole is already there. I keep my resin tools inside my Dolly Parton Box. Chris opted for a more traditional approach with his Don Cheetem box using the bowl for desk supplies and the box to hold all the left over clothespins we had! | ||

| These little gems make great gifts. If you are a big spender the boxes make great gift boxes, no need for wrapping paper with these babies. You can use 45's for smaller bowls. Think of the possibilities of colored vinyl. Now go get you a record! | ||
