Shannon Wright - Perishable Goods EP- Quarterstick/Touch and Go

Review by: Tina Lockwood

It seems that all of a sudden everyone was talking about one Miss Shannon Wright - "Shannon Wright this..., Shannon Wright that...". I thought it must be gold! I finally got my hands on her CD EP Perishable Goods. My first superficial listen had me thinking that it was OK and that her sound was similar to Tori Amos in a weird way; nothing to write home about. BUT, as with most things that I end up totally-totally loving, I wasn't blown away at first, but slowly became addicted. I am so addicted! My grandma used to say "Buttermilk and beer are acquired tastes, honey." Well, I'm adding Shannon Wright to that list.

This EP is one of those that you'll eventually want to put on constant repeat. It is like that great book that hooks you in and you can't put down until you are finished and then you want to read it all over again. Because it feels authentic and she lays herself out for all to see....because it makes me embarrassed and sad, and I want to sing along. Because her vocal style is so damn strange...she pronounces and cuts off her words in very peculiar ways and I always want to hear them again. Because it is way more than what you thought.

So here I am "Shannon Wright this..., Shannon Wright that..." Go get a copy of 'Perishable Goods' and you'll talk about her too.
